About

I’m an amateur photographer based in Sydney, Australia. I’ve been hooked on photography since I begged my uncle to let me “help” him in the darkroom when I was 5. I got my first SLR at 12, and have been taking photos ever since. In my late teens and early 20s I had my own darkroom and printed black and white as well as colour Cibachrome (slide) prints, but after having twin sons I put the hobby on hold for a number of years.

Then in 2000 I went digital for a 6 month trip around Europe by buying an Olympus 2 megapixel point and shoot. It was cheaper than paying for film and processing – with the added bonus that the kids could take all the photos they wanted without any worries about costs. Amazingly some of those photos have held up pretty well, considering the technology improvements since then.  These days I’m happily playing in the micro four thirds space.

After some encouragement from my aunt I became very active in my local camera club, and and they brought out the more abstract/creative side of my photography, which has been slowly brewing for a decade or more now. But other commitments are limiting my ability to get into the right headspace – which means that my photography is currently more intermittent than I’d like.

I’m pretty eclectic in my shooting tastes but am currently playing with abstracts from nature, but I’m very much spur of the moment, taking inspiration from what I see in front of me. I don’t tend to plan my shots (or shoots) much – even a tripod and flash tend to get in my way. I’m trying to curate my images a bit better – but that’s definitely a work in progress, along with updating my web design!
